TMF: The Other Reason for the Mac Mini- Perception / Apple (AAPL):
We’ve been debating the merits of this machine all day, but one big benefit of this machine for Apple has nothing to do with the Mini itself, but the rest of Apple’s line.

The PC/ Mac comparisons have been done do death, but at the end of the day consumers look at the cheapest PC and the cheapest Mac, and assume that PC’s are a much better value. It doesn’t matter whether they actually are or aren’t (like I said that horse has been beaten to death 10x over), that’s what customers perceive.

Well, I hate to say it but I was right on multiple fronts with Apple (they did all the hard work, I just rationalized why it would work.) I thought they’d be fools not to come out with an affordable Mac with all the iPod hysteria, I was just wrong about the model (it turned out to be the Mac Mini, not the G5 iMac.)
Then during all the hoopla over the screenless, wheel-less iPod mockups, it was pretty clear to me exactly why that would be the model Apple released, and why it would make perfect sense (leverage iTunes and minimize/economize the player.)
More importantly, I put my money where my mouth is and bought a bunch of Apple stock awhile ago… ![]()
